The Museum of liturgical tradition and culture ¨ Pharos ¨

Address Message of his Eminence regarding the Museum of the Metropolis of Lagada, Liti and Redina. The protection of the wealth of our cultural tradition is the duty of all of us.

Especially, regarding the rich functional ecclesiastical tradition the Metropolis, the Metropolitan and the clergy have full responsibility because in our sacred temples there are holy icons, holy vestments, holy vessel and ancient books that need protection. The protection and projection of our culture in a region constitute a duty and obligation towards the region’s history and tradition.

We are called to preserve what they have handed in to us. So in the cadre of this effort we organize the operation of a Museum which will present the treasures of our liturgical tradition of the Metropolis of Lagada, Liti and Redina by the exhibition of sacred icons and other sacred relics which are related to the liturgical tradition. The procedure completed by the issue of a Regulation by the Holy Synod of the church of Greece which was published in the official Gazette and the realization of this program began.

The premise of ‘’Pharos’’ which is located in the city-center of Lagada has been already ceded to the Metropolis. The works regarding roof reparation and the reparation of other building’s infrastructures are in progress in order to house in this place the operation of the ecclesiastical archive of recons which will be a vital place regarding the projection, the preservation and the presentation of this high cultural property which is a common cultural heritage of the Metropolis and of the people of this region who have the opportunity to visit the museum and draw the necessary moral lessons.

Parallely, the Metropolis has the chance in the cadre of religious tourism to increase the interest and the visits in the city of Lagada from other regions of our country and from all over the world. It is a work that we should all embrace with interest and the special element in this operation is that nobody enter a hall just to see the exhibits but the Museum will be shaped in functional areas of the Orthodox Church from where the liturgical tradition will be project with scientific consistency as is recorded by the holy icons and other sacred objects of the Divine Worship.

The Museum will also exhibit stuff associated with the churches of our Metropolis and the wall – paintings which are preserved in many churches, as well as other material that has to be presented as a model of the architectural and the artistic character of our region.
